MLA / CE - Week 4: Social Bookmarking
Assignment: del.icio.us
I had fun using del.icio.us. I tagged seven sites (Bellwiki Home, About the “Learn More” series, Lifehacker Top 10…, Harps, Huntington Botanical Gardens, Podcast.net…, and Welcome to the AGEHR) quickly and easily. It was very interesting to see how many people had tagged these sites and how simple it was to find other sites on these topics.
There were three other things I liked about del.icio.us, namely “task-oriented” tags, “audience-oriented” tags, and the ability to access my del.icio.us tags from any computer. This would be great for me since I use several computers and work on various projects.
I can see the value of using social bookmarking tools, such as del.icio.us, in libraries, but I think these tools should be used to augment, not necessarily replace, what we already have.
